In the world of racing video games, Gran Turismo is it, the big tuna, the Alpha and Omega. In an August 2007 story on the development of the highly foreseen GT5 for PlayStation 3, we mentioned that the game’s release date might be pushed “to the end of 2008 or beyond.” That was, to set it mildly, a understatement. The first authorised release date was March 2010. Maker Polyphony Digital leapt that date by a mile, also voyaging past the make-up date planned for November 2, finally letting go of the game this past Thanksgiving weekend. To see if this edition could possibly dwell up to the hype, we pitted Sony’s concentrated franchise—which bills itself as “The Real Driving Simulator”—against a proven quantity and its main competitor, Forza Motorsport 3 for Xbox 360
